Families Week: 10 – 16 Aug 2024

The chance to unwind in beautiful surroundings, spending time close to nature on a relaxed, friendly campsite with a real emphasis on togetherness, fun and celebration for families of all shapes and ages!

The camp is run by a small team of volunteers: preparing meals, carrying out maintenance tasks and leading the activity programme – we simply ask for all campers to come with a willingness to ‘get stuck in’ – whether that be helping out with washing up, serving meals or just generally looking out for each other – you’re free to join in with as much or as little of the programme that suits your preferred camp experience!

What to expect on Families Week…

The chance to unwind in beautiful surroundings, spending time close to nature on a relaxed, friendly campsite with a real emphasis on togetherness, fun and celebration for families of all shapes and ages!

The camp is run by a small team of volunteers: preparing meals, carrying out maintenance tasks and leading the activity programme – we simply ask for all campers to come with a willingness to ‘get stuck in’ – whether that be helping out with washing up, serving meals or just generally looking out for each other – you’re free to join in with as much or as little of the programme that suits your preferred camp experience!

Throughout the week there will be plenty of opportunities to naturally talk about and explore faith with others, as well as dedicated times in the evenings for sung praise and worship. You and your family are very welcome to join us this year – where you will no doubt make new relationships with other campers that keep coming back year after year!

We’re currently finalising our 2024 programme, but to give you an idea of what to expect – here’s our programme from 2023:

MWCC families week 2023 programme

Helpful things to know

Most camping equipment is provided – including:

  • A family sized tent for your tribe (we do have a limited amount of space for a couple of families to bring their own tent – with prior agreement)
  • Dishes and cutlery
  • Phosphate free washing products – hand soap, shampoo & shower gel
  • Sports equipment (table tennis, football goals, balls etc)

You will need to bring:

  • Bedding – camp bed or air bed, sleeping bags and blankets
  • Clothes for every season!
  • Towels & personal toiletries.
  • A torch
  • Sun cream and hat
  • Travel cup, flask, water/squash container for everyone in your family (we won’t have other cups available for use – look after your cup, keep it clean and we’ll have fewer wasps in the marquee!)

We recommend you bring:

  • Wellies, crocs or wet weather shoes (the grass is wet in the morning)
  • Waterproof coat (just in case)
  • Swim wear
  • Giant fleecey hooded blanket jumper
  • Picnic bag / cool box / back packs – something for you to transport your picnic lunch when we go off-site

You may like to bring:

  • A camping chair
  • Your own bananas to retrospectively add to the banana-less-banoffess

Food:

We aim to cater our meals for a variety of taste palettes with a focus on high quality ingredients, nutritionally balanced, to a home-cooked style menu. We can also accommodate for some dietary choices, however, as you will know with your own household budget over recent months, food and fuel prices have increased in some cases up to 50% more than this time last year. Rather than directly passing this cost on in camp fees, we’re aiming to simplify our menu where possible, and so we ask with grace to please tell us your dietary preferences with this in mind – if something is a ‘take it or leave it’ dietary choice, please choose to simplify e.g. if you sometimes drink cows milk, please could you choose to not require soya milk for this week. Specific food allergies will of course be catered for adhering to the highest standards of food preparation.

If you have any other questions – please email us at mwccfamiliesweek@gmail.com and one of the team will aim to get back to you within a few days.

We hope you’ll join us for a week to remember!
